Man are my feet and ankles sore. I need a full body massage. And a good night's sleep. That hasn't happened in oh- I don't know- a month?

Work is over for the week and I am looking forward to a 4 day weekend. Tomorrow night people from home are coming to visit and we are all going to go to the beach saturday. I am wicked excited. I may also try to go to the Cape to chill with Amy and her friends on Sunday. And ideally, I will be able to go to Curtis's family's BBQ and see some Brandeis people on the 4th. Busy weekend, and I am excited.

But I am also tired. Very tired. I am going to get into some comfy pjs and perhaps go watch something with Margot.

I think Antonio, from the farm, has a crush on me. Apparently he is always asking the other girls about me, and he acts very shy around me, but always makes sure to say hi to me when he is there. Today I showed him the flowers I was going to buy (purple lisianthis and beautiful purple-tipped white dahlias) and made a joke about how I didn't have any money. Later he came up to me and offered to buy the flowers for me. It was terribly sweet.

After that, I thought it might be useful to teach Liz (another good-looking girl in my dept) how to say, "Ya tengo novio." Although, I hope it doesn't come to that. I don't want to hurt the poor guy's feelings.

I also got loving from Liz today. She says I'm her favorite! Wilson's is flowing with love. A Love Farm, if you will.

ACH! those damned germans!

Three of the most stereotypically German people came to Wilson's today. One looked like Lola from Run Lola Run- bright red hair and everything. The other woman looked a little like a man (Frau hehe) and the guy had bleach blonde spiked hair and a bleached blonde little goatee-thing and big sunglasses. It was tooo good. And of course, they wanted to look at the wreath that was hanging the highest and directly over the expensive vases. I tried and tried, but couldn't get it down without smashing the vases, so I had to get Antonio to get it down. Then they saw it, looked at the price, and said, "Nevermind" with big German smiles and walked away. Wunderbar.

And to top off a stressful day of work in 80 degree weather (where I continually got dizzy spells and headaches and pushy customers) I dropped a flower bucket and the water splashed out, dousing my shirt, pants, face, and attacking my left eye with flower-dirt-water. Sigh.

Now I am clean, and I am going to relax.

Itchy!

Late friday night, Curtis and I made the trek home. Saturday was awesome- we met Megan and Jay and went strawberry picking (which none of them had ever done before) and then we went swimming in the river. Rocks are not that comfortable to tan on. We got a very nice dinner at the Olive Garden, and made it to the fireworks just in time to watch them with Katherine, Siobhan, Alli, and Katherine's sister. And even after that, we went to visit Maya to say bye before she goes to camp. Sunday was a little messed up. Spent time lounging in the AC and getting bitten by fleas. Got dinner with the family and headed home late again.

The bites are taking over. I got mosquito bites (5) on my arms when we went swimming. I have (13) flea bites on my stomache. I have (3) mosquito bites on my head from the fireworks. I also have at least (11) flea/mosquito bites on my legs, ankles, and toes. The ones on my stomache are the worst though. There are so many, it looks like I have the chicken pox.

I'm not quite ready for the boringness of work yet. All I can think about is the two seasons of Sex and the City curtis put on my computer.... waiting for me....

It's been a while since I had an evening to myself. I spent tonight on aim, which I havent really spent any time using in a while. I actually had conversations with many different people. I finally feel more connected. I also met two of Becca's old childhood friends. They were really nice and friendly, and I hope we all see each other soon. Yay for finally being social! And I get to sleep late tomorrow. And I have a yogurt pie waiting for me in the freezer (tastes better than it sounds). The fan is about to lull this tired girl to sleep.

Yesterday I tested out the new bathing suit at the beach on Plum Island after work. It was really nice. I read alot, and I think I tanned a bit, though I could definitely use more. I had forgotton how annoying sand is.

The hunt for a laptop case continues. The problem is that I want a really thin sleeve and a bag, so that the inside of the bag wont scratch it up. Call me paranoid, but I'm not getting another computer for a looong time, and I want this one to stay looking new. I am very picky. This might take a while.

I want to sell some books, but I thought I might as well list some here before I go through Amazon and other networks...

Portrait of Hemmingway, Lillian Ross
The Road to Wigan Pier, George Orwell
The Chrysanthemum and the Sword, Ruth Benedict
The White Album, Joan Dideon
American Ground, William Langewische
The Freud Archives, Janet Malcolm
What Am I Doing Here?, Bruce Chatwin
The Telephone Booth Indian, A.J. Leibling
Advertising: The Uneasy Persuation, Michael Schudson
Looking Backwards, Edward Bellamy
Hiroshima, John Hersey

If you are interested in any of these, let me know.

Mitzi Mouse

[info]dreamsthatfizz
My roommates named the mouse Mitzi after a love interest of Mighty Mouse. It made 2 appearances last night. One, to me, in the kitchen, scurrying accross the counter and behind the stove, and another in Margot's room. This has got to stop. Note to self: Call Georgia's brother, then kill Georgia. BAD LANDLORD! Why the hell do they even call them "landlords" anyway? She is no lord over any land. She is just a lazy bitch who seems to be able to charge people 1600 a month for a few filthy, rodent and bug infested rooms with keys that can't unluck the doors and still sleep at night. Sigh.

I have the afternoon off today, and I can't wait. I hope it doesn't make the internship go slower in anticipation.

back at work...

little bit boring at the office today. it might get more exciting though. never know. 1 hour down, 3 more to go.

it was nice to be back in the apartment last night. my bed is heavenly with that blanket. the flea bites are still there, but subdued. I can't wait till I get back to it tonight after work at 9.

i brought back all my books and movies, which is nice. my bookshelf really looks like a bookshelf now. i also brought back my flute music, another pillow, some food, and i bought the computer, and it is a dream.

you never said anything about fleas

My house is infested with fleas. My dog picked them up somewhere, and I am now covered in bites. It is awful. I think I react badly to them, because my legs are splotchy and the bites have swollen. They gave me like 6 bites on the underside of my knee (so uncomfortable).

And speaking of uncomfortable... my parents don't want me to buy the laptop. I don't think I've ever directly gone against their wishes before. I always get their approval before I do something, or fight with them until I get it. But, I feel like this is my only chance to ever have a powerbook (because it's such a good one-time-only deal) and I REALLY want it. I've already fallen in love with it. This may just be the first time I go against their wishes. And if the thing breaks or anything happens, I'm totally screwed- (in their eyes). Sigh. This whole thing is driving everyone crazy. Fuck. I hate money. And I hate it when my parents and I don't see eye to eye. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but it's huge. Argh. And I really didn't want to fight with my dad on father's day.

there is something ridiculously fragrant in my living room... and it isn't the flowers my mom bought. they are unsmelly flowers (mums and daisies). where is the smell coming from, i wonder? it is delicious.

So, after a long boring drive, I'm back home. It's a bit different. Where there was all contruction dirt, there is now some young fresh grass. And new little birch trees. And some plants. And downstairs, my room is looking different. There is a rug, and there are shelves in the closet. And a light in there too! Tomorrow we will put the molding around the windows and doors.

Still having some trouble deciding about the Powerbook, although I've pretty much decided. I'm using it right now.
Pros: big screen, awesome backlit keyboard, bigger hardrive, faster processor, DVD burner, good deal, pretty
Cons: bigger computer (harder to transport), more delicate than iBook, and money I technically don't need to spend.

But it is such a good deal! I think I'm going to take it. My dad doesn't have a problem with it, and I'll give him my iBook, and I think he'd really have fun with it. Plus, we could sell the eMac and get at least half the money back that I'd spend on the powerbook. (yes... that's how good of a deal it is) Ok... too much computer talk for now. Time for the comforts of home (read: nice shower, tv)

do I want a powerbook? do i? it is pretty... really pretty. and it is cheap, for a powerbook. is 15" too big? it is really pretty, and i like the keyboard. it would let me play sims on it (when it comes out for mac) and i would look extra spiffy in cafes, sipping cafe mochas, finishing up my novel.... *sigh - wishful thinking* it would be better for watching movies, much more space on the screen for things, faster, more hardrive space for sex and the city episodes. then again... money comes right out of college account. no new computers till way after grad school most likely. am i sure i want ot do this?

Of 30,000, pink, coincidence and chicken

My car will roll over to 30,000 miles in a couple of days. I think that means it is officially no longer new. Sigh.

Odd News: I, yes I- water phobic- bought a bathing suit. For the first time in 3 years, I own a bathing suit! And I actually like it. It fits really well, looks good, is comfortable, covers what I want to cover, doesn't cover what I don't want, and it's pretty. And here's the catch for all yous who know me well... it's pink. Kindof. It's a maroon paisley design with a pink background, halter top. And now I will go swimming. So odd.

Also, tonight met Curtis's cousin Adam and his new girlfriend Jill. What an odd coincidence- they met in China on study abroad. Turns out, she's Andrew Boulet's sister (he lived on my hall last year) and once she said his name I realized she looks exactly like him! Also, she goes to Mt Holyoke, and loves Northampton! It's awesome.

Also, I cooked chicken for the first time! I overcooked it a teensy bit, but it was still really good. I bought tortillas, peppers, onions, tomatoes, salsa, chicken, and mexican seasonings and made fajitas. it was awesome. I like cooking.

Good things, good things. Hopefully this weekend I will get to the beach to try out the new suit. And I think I'm gonna go home for Father's Day. Next weekend is the fireworks! I'm so glad I don't have to work. Ahhhh... time for mint ice cream.

heat

[info]dreamsthatfizz
yesterday was hot. my work has no air conditioning. i bought a big overpriced deli container of watermelon slices and hid them in the flower cooler. every so often i snuck a piece, and that tiny bit of coolness and waterness helped alot. I seriously slurped the rest on the drive home. Watermelon poisoning. oy.

i have so much to do lately. just keeping up with life stuff... my journal is in desperate need of updating, groceries are in deperate need of restocking, hair to brush, bills to pay, etc.

the heat is making me lose my mind. i left 6 people hanging on IM last night. Forgive me... in this heat, im seem to be much worse than usual about that.

my hardrive is almost full again. but i dont know where my blank cds are to burn stuff... and i don't want to lose the sex and the city episodes i downloaded. oy. my computer will explode and die. it is a good little computer, i'll give it that.

lovely weekend

[info]dreamsthatfizz
So, I finally had a weekend off, and it was amazing. Curtis and I did alot. Friday we learned how much you can do if you start your day at 6:30 am. Went to Costco and Home Depot, and did other fun errandy-type things.

Saturday was the best. We went to Newbury Port. We walked along the beach at Plum Island... and I need a bathing suit. Then we poked around Newbury Port for hours. I found the most amazing shoes I've ever seen. Way too expensive though, but I was convinced to try them on. And we had the best dinner ever at a place called The Rockfish. *Mmmmm good salad*

And yesterday we went shopping at Downtown Crossing, which is always fun. I got a realy pretty summery linen shirty thing to wear when when I see my grandparents. And I almost found a bathing suit... but the damn thing just wasn't quite right.

The heat makes it so hard to do anything. Like... go to work today. But, I just have to remember, it's only 4 days and then I get another lovely weekend. I think I may go home for Father's Day. And to see my room at home- they put a carpet in there, and I can help my dad put in the wood trim, and then it will be finished! That is very exciting.

Time to get ready. Blech.

Last night was nice, although rather hot. I need a fan of some sort. I'm curious and tiny bit worried about our electric bill with two air conditioners. As far as I see it, I'm certainly not getting any relief from the heat in my sweltering room... so I'm certainly not paying for those things.

Anyhoo... today I have my internship (now) and then wilsons till 8:30 and then Beth is coming to visit! I just hope I have enough energy by then... Then, tomorrow I work from 2-8:30, and then the crazy hellish two weeks of too much work are finally over! I will have a three day weekend, and then return to a life with a much more normal schedule! I can't wait!

My internship is getting slightly more interesting. The topic of their new project is basically the Privacy vs. National Security debate, involving issues of 9/11, the Patriot Act, electronic privacy, etc. I got to do research yesterday to compile a list of "other resources" to give more info on the topics if someone wants to know more after they view the movie we made. It's been fun. I found a lot of really cool blogs.

I was never really into the blogging community (outside of lj), but now I'm starting to get into it. I'd like to start my own blog, of course, but I don't know if I have the time/energy/staying power, etc. Plus... I don't always have opinions on things. Maybe I will give it a try anyway. Perhaps, perhaps.

Afternoon OFF!!!

Finally, some free time. Bec and I went to KFC because I had never been there before and fried chicken is always sooo good. It's not like I go there every day, so what the hell, right? Gonna pay some bills, get mail, fight with reslife... then head to curtis's to hang out and wash clothes.

Got to do some interesting stuff at my internship.

I need to clean my room. And get a fan.

I'm reading The Outsider by Richard Wright and I love it. It's been a while since I read such a classically American novel. It's not thrilling, it's not multi-cultural, it's not topical, it's not trendy, it's not excessively wordy or pretentious... it's just solidly good. I enjoy it.
